Big Stone State Park is one park but
located in two areas, both on Big Stone Lake and accessed by Highway 7. The Meadowbrook
Area has a public lake access, electrical hookups and water, modern showers and bathrooms,
and group facilities.
The Bonanza Area is set aside for naturalist interests and provides primitive camping
for groups only. This area features rare virgin prairie and is home to the Bonanza
Environmental Center, staffed and maintained by a core of area school districts.
The county park located in Graceville is at the south edge of Toqua Lake, just west of
Highway 75. It features ball diamonds, modern shower and restroom facilities, picnic
grounds, camping areas, swimming areas with a sand beach, and a public boat access.
This park is the site of a major statewide softball tournament each summer. Water
skiers find Toqua Lake a delight as its tree-lined, compact size makes it less susceptible
to strong winds.
Outstanding community parks are located in the county. Beardsley has a well-maintained
centrally located family park;
Clinton's park is a unique tribute to its rail town beginnings, (the community rallied
to save and restore their depot and has added playground equipment and a flower garden);
Ortonville and her sister city in South Dakota, Big Stone City, boast of ten city parks
plus downtown rest areas. Central Park and Neilson's offer unique hill and ravine settings
with hiking trails and hideaway rest areas.
