This National Register property was built by John G. Lund in 1891 and sold to Rev. Olaf Hoel in 1903. The house is of American-Victorian style with 15 rooms.

VOLSTEAD MUSEUM - Granite Falls

On the National Register of Historic Places, the home of U.S. Congressman Andrew J. Volstead features memorabilia in the home's parlor. Volstead was co-author of the Prohibition Act and of the Capper-Volstead Act which brought about farmer cooperatives.

A unique look at a turn of the century village. A 23-building complex showing town and country life. Authentic log cabins, 1882 church, General Store, Millinery Shop, School House, farm house, etc.

YELLOW MEDICINE COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM - Granite Falls

Intersection of Hwys. 23 & 67 • 320.564.4479 • Open mid-May to mid-October: Tuesday - Sun 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.. The museum reopened in June 2000 and is a 'work in progress'.  The direction the museum is taking after the devastating flood of 1997 is to present living histories of people in the county.  In addition to a bison bone display and the "World's Oldest Rock", the museum features a chapel within the museum and two original log cabins; one pioneer home and the other a general store.  Reference materials are available for historical and genealogical research. 

ADMISSION: Free. Donation are accepted.

Contains artifacts from the Native American past. Research library, rooms containing pioneer memorabilia, medical items and old furniture, Township Row display. Ethel Mehlum doll collection is featured. Log cabin, country school, agricultural display building feature pioneer life and the Robert Bly Museum

Dawson Historical Armory Building - Dawson

On the corner of 7th and Pine St. in downtown Dawson • 320.769.2069   Open year round: Monday - Saturday 10:30 A.M. • On the National Register of Historic Places, remodeled Armory houses the Library, Community Rooms, History Center and Art Exhibitions. Senior housing is also available. Items exhibited include hometown Gnomes, local historic artifacts and local art exhibitions. Technology available for research. Open to the public.

BIG STONE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM - Ortonville

Home to the Charles Hanson North American Wildlife Collection, described by the Minneapolis Star & Tribune as" one of the largest (collections) probably in the world." The collection includes waterfowl, birds of prey, and rare species of birds and some animals originating from Alaska to Mexico.  It is housed in the former Artichoke Lake General Store.  The museum also interprets Big Stone Lake history and features a fossil collection donated by Rausch Brothers Granite Company. The fossils date to the Mesozoic era from the Cretaceous Period 65 to 100 million years ago.  On the grounds: Paul Bunyan's 110-ton anchor, log cabins, farm machinery, and the 100-year-old launch, The Muskegon.

LAC QUI PARLE MISSION - Watson

From Watson: one mile north on Hwy 59 & 7, turn left on County Road 13. Go 2.2 miles, turn right, it's on the right side of the road. 320.269.7636

Site is open year round. Chapel open last weekend in April to Labor Day 8am - 8pm This National Register site is owned by the Minnesota Historical Society. It is home to the First Protestant Mission in the state. The Bible was translated into the Dakota language and the Dakota/English hymnal was developed at this site.

ARV HUS MUSEUM - Milan

This museum contains exhibits from privately owned sources and items donated to the Milan Arv Hus organization. A special collection of Milan area photographs is also on display.

The Olof Swensson Farm Museum contains a 22-room house, timber-framed barn, family cemetery and remains of a grist mill. Constructed in 1901, the house contains original furnishings from this unique Norwegian family.
