On the National Register of Historic Places, the home of U.S. Congressman Andrew J.
Volstead features memorabilia in the home's parlor. Volstead was co-author of the
Prohibition Act and of the Capper-Volstead Act which brought about farmer cooperatives.

The museum reopened in June 2000 and is a 'work in progress'. The
direction the museum is taking after the devastating flood of 1997 is to
present living histories of people in the county. In addition to a
bison bone display and the "World's Oldest Rock", the museum
features a chapel within the museum and two original log cabins; one pioneer
home and the other a general store. Reference materials are available
for historical and genealogical research.

Home to the Charles Hanson North American Wildlife Collection, described by the
Minneapolis Star & Tribune as" one of the largest (collections) probably in the
world." The collection includes waterfowl, birds of prey, and rare species of birds
and some animals originating from Alaska to Mexico. It is housed in the former
Artichoke Lake General Store. The museum also interprets Big Stone Lake history and features
a fossil collection donated by Rausch Brothers Granite Company. The fossils date to the
Mesozoic era from the Cretaceous Period 65 to 100 million years ago. On the grounds:
Paul Bunyan's 110-ton anchor, log cabins, farm machinery, and the 100-year-old launch, The
Muskegon.

Site is open year round. Chapel open last weekend in April to Labor Day 8am - 8pm This
National Register site is owned by the Minnesota Historical Society. It is home to the
First Protestant Mission in the state. The Bible was translated into the Dakota language
and the Dakota/English hymnal was developed at this site.

The Olof Swensson Farm Museum
contains a 22-room house, timber-framed barn, family cemetery and remains of a grist
mill. Constructed in 1901, the house contains original furnishings from this unique
Norwegian family.
